QLD: Rona floods now the cause for concern

Floods from cyclone RONA are posing a threat to coastal communities in far north Queensland
today after a week of devastating floods in the state's south-east.

Gympie residents and shopkeepers are re-settling after the worst floods this century, and
Maryborough residents will begin cleaning up today as floodwaters there begin to recede.

Attention is now turned to four rivers in the far north -- the Johnstone at Innisfail,
Herbert at Gairloch, Barron at Cairns and Tully at Euramo.

The weather bureau says major flooding is expected at Gairloch and at Innisfail, 90km south
of Cairns, as river levels there begin to rise.

The SES at Cairns says 1,000 people have been evacuated as the Barron River at Kamerunga
flooded early today, and further evacuations could be possible later in the day.
