NSW: Police seek witness to fog crash fatality

SYDNEY, Aug 8 AAP - Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal accident in heavy fog in
Sydney's north-west yesterday.

A 31-year-old Richmond man died when his 1991 Toyota Hiace van collided with a 1997 Hyundai
Excel sedan at 8.30am at a busy intersection at Castle Hill.

Georges Rivers Crash Investigation spokesman Shane Bentley said while the road was dry at
the time of the accident, it was foggy.

Senior Constable Bentley said preliminary investigations showed the Hyundai, driven by a
20-year-old man from Rooty Hill, failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of
Showground Rd and Victoria Ave.

"It is important, however, that we speak to anyone who witnessed the accident before we
proceed," he said.

The driver of the Hyundai and his three passengers were taken to Westmead Hospital,
suffering minor injuries.

The man driving the Hiace was alone at the time of the crash.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the fog caused several minor accidents throughout the city
yesterday, and the Roads and Traffic Authority posted fog alert warning signs on the F3, F6
and M4 motorways.

The heavy blanketing also forced the temporary closure of Sydney Airport and halted Sydney
Ferries.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash is asked to call the Georges River Crash
Investigation Unit on 9554 9945 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
