Qld: "Please explain" from Borbidge to Beattie

The Queensland opposition says Premier PETER BEATTIE has an obligation to give a public
explanation of his knowledge of any electoral fraud.

The call for a public explanation from the premier and former Queensland Labor Party
state secretary follows the extension of the terms of reference of the Shepherdson Inquiry.

The Criminal Justice Commission says now the inquiry will also include the 1986 Labor
preselection for the state seat of South Brisbane.

Mr BEATTIE was state secretary of the party at the time of the bitter pre-selection
battle between sitting member JIM FOURAS and Goss Government minister ANNE WARNER.

Opposition leader ROB BORBIDGE says the extension of the terms of reference means Mr
BEATTIE has a duty to state his case.

Mr BORBIDGE says the excuse he can't recall falls short of the mark.

Mr BEATTIE has previously said he didn't remember receiving any rorting complaints
from those involved in the 1986 South Brisbane preselection.
